Clear Skin: Quick Tips

The main things to keep your skin clear are as follows:

1. Cleanse: People tend to think that if they just apply medication, then their acne will go away. Cleansing is important because you are washing away the oil, dirt and makeup from the day off your skin. You are also prepping your skin for the next steps.

2. Exfoliate: Exfoliation often goes undone. Dead skin cells trap excess sebum and bacteria in your pores, creating a blemish. So exfoliation helps to slough off those dead skin cells to help the oil flow freely and allow your pores to open and breathe in order to kill the bacteria that is inside. People often use a toner or a scrub. Both are great, it depends on your preference. Toner is great for sweeping extra dirt and soap scum out of your pores, and also helps get rid of dead skin cells. Scrubs tend to help more with blackheads because you can work them into your pores instead of just rubbing it on.

3. Moisturize: Many people think they shouldn't moisturize because it will "cause their zits to become more oily and won't help them heal." It is actually quite the opposite. Sebum (the oil produced by your skin) is what clogs your pores when there is too much of it. To help your skin to "think" it is moisturized, it is crucial to use an oil free moisturizer to slow down sebum production. Creams are generally better for those with dry skin, and gels for those with oilier skin. Again, it is preference.

4. Treat: Steps 3 and 4 can be switched if that's what you like. Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most effective acne treatments there are. However, tea tree oil (which is natural and won't clog or dry your skin) works just as well. There are other acne medications, of course, but Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the more popular ones and always helps me. Apply to your fingertips and pat over your entire face to treat zits already there AND prevent new ones from coming. People often make the mistake of only treating the blemishes they have and then wondering why they got a new one the next day.

Other things that can help your skin:

1. Drink LOTS of water to help flush out toxins and hydrate your skin.

2. Exercise to help circulation and overall health. Also helps blood sugar (you will read about blood sugar and skin relationships below)

3. Eat well. High blood sugar affects hormones. When hormones get higher, you get more zits. Also, fruits and vegetables have natural nutrients and antioxidants to to cleanse your insides which also leads to a clear face.

4. Sleep. Your skin repairs itself most when you sleep, so this is CRUCIAL.

5. Mud masks. I suggest doing this once or twice a week for extra exfoliation and to bring acne causing things closer to the surface for easier treatment.

6. Steamer. Face steamers are great and cheap. Once or twice a week, you can use this before doing your mask to open your pores, or before cleansing your face.

7. Good hygiene. ALWAYS WASH OUR HANDS. Your hands carry most of the bacteria on your body, and also touch your face the most. Showers everyday or every other day help too (preferably hot ones) and can be used to cleanse your face.

8. Green Tea. It has very powerful antioxidants to help clear acne. You can drink it or find it in many facial products.

9. Relax. Yoga reduces stress. Although stress does not CAUSE acne, it does make it worse.

10. BELIEVE. You must stick to ONE regimen for at least a month or two. Do not expect results immediately. You have to be religious in your routine (which means not changing it frequently or forgetting). Positivity is CRUCIAL. You must believe that you will achieve clear skin in order to get it!

Okay. Here we are at 8 weeks. Generally my skin is clearing but as you can see there are still some spots. Think this is due to a recent daily facial skin massage with a Ridoki (roller) which is helping to improve circulation and in so doing is clearing deeper congestion. After 40 odd years of spots around my chin, I am pleased with the results that have occured in 8 weeks and am confident that my skin will go on improving. It feels differnt to the touch and that's a big thing so I'm less likely to pick!! It's great to be able to go out in public without a desperate neeed to 'cover up' the spots. If I cloose to that's a different matter. So all in all I would say that this regime has made a difference. Thank you.

Well, although the first picture was taken 8 weeks ago, I didn't start the programme until 6 weeks ago. So this is 2 weeks on from the last photo. Isn't it a great idea to take photos - even in two weeks I can see a difference.

As mentioned on clear-for-life, observing progress is about seeing the developments from before rather than comparing to the overall goal each time. I think this is so true - always measuring the current state with the ideal leaves me dispirited - a case of 'oh no, not there yet'. But... seeing the difference between now and a time ago e.g. two weeks ago, and it leaves me with a greater sense of achievement and progress.

Choosing to exercise, drink plenty of water, eat regularly, eat helpful foods, breathe fully and get as much sun and fresh air as possible each day is contributing to a new skin-friendly lifestyle. Mindset is key too I think. I'm feeling less anxious about spots and am consciously choosing to direct a TLC energy towards my skin rather than the previously impatient and hostile engery. It'll take time to change this previous longstanding habit but looking back I can see a difference and that fills me with a good feeling.

I have mild acne for the last 2 years, i'm 31 now. It started around the same time that i quit smoking and came off the pill and i was very stressed around that time as well so it was one of those or the combination that made me break out. I'd never had bad skin before besides the odd monthly spot.

Going back on the pill calmed it down and the spots on my chest went away. I tried loads of different products and spent loads of money trying things. After a year i went to the doctor and got tetracycline anti biotics which cleared up my skin completely after 6 weeks but as soon as the 3 month prescription was finished within 2 weeks the spots started coming back.

I decided i wanted to get clear naturally and like anyone else in the same boat im on the internet a lot looking for information about acne. I take cod liver oil and zinc and i eat healthily and lately ive only been using manuka honey on my face and a non comedogenic moisturiser and foundation. My skins cleared a lot since i started using manuka honey, but the same thing happened with the zinc and cod liver oil when i started them too so i'm giving it more time before i know if its working and this program is my plan b if it doesnt.

I cut down on sugar as well lately because i think there is something in the blood sugar/acne link, i rarely ate sweet things while i smoked and got my sweet tooth back when i quit.

Well, although this is the bare truth of my skin today(still a little shocking to see), comparing it with the first photo, I think I can see an improvement i.e. skin is not so lumpy. I am keeping to the skincare regime but am still drinking coffee, an occasional glass of wine and continue to pick at times. However, this said, I feel good about making changes to my lifestyle and the coffee, wine and picking are becoming less. I am keeping to regular fitness, as well as regular meals and 2-3 litres of water a day. After years and years of such habits, it's refreshing to see a difference in behaviour. There's mind set work that I am doing presently too - to do with self-image and self-esteem, so at least now I can look in a mirror and without either turning away or hating what I see. I've discovered that cutting off/disassociating from or sending hateful energy around the body just doesn't work. It's lead to years of misery. And now things are changing and that feels sooooo gooooood!

Back now from hols so have started using products together as only took facial wash away due to me sunbathing and the recommendation not to use the medicated gel in the sun.

Wow! It's already making a difference. Of course I've also started to change my attitude towards my skin/spots ( am using additional resources from clear-for-life).

BUT

If Rebecca hadn't sent the e-mail out I would never be at this stage right now. So I'm truly thankful.

Now when I start to 'pick' or 'squeeze' I bring to mind the macoroni effect. It's certainly helping me think twice!! I'm also discovering my trigger(s) for picking and am working on replacing the 'picking' response with a less harmful response.

Have been conscious of drinking plenty of water, eating regular small meals throughout the day ( to prevent wide fluctuations in blood sugars)establishing a regular exercise habit and addressing my beliefs about my self . Must say others have noticed that my shape is changing - a trimmer waist. Most imortantly, I feel more in charge.

It is now September the 26th and I have been using the Rosacea products as per instructions for around 3 weeks. I am still enjoying them. I use the facial wash twice a day - morning and night, I put the treatment cream on very lightly to the midline of my face where the redness is worst and I put the moisturiser on avoiding the eye area on top of that. I don't ever put anything on my face after washing at bed time. I can't honestly say that the redness looks any different but I definately am saying that my skin has not had any spotty breakouts since I've been using the products. I also really like the way my skin feels after putting on the moisturiser.

I have just performed some advanced electrolysis on my telangiectasia, or thread veins. At this point in time, therefore, i do look a bit plooky! Only temporary though.

On the subject of my practice - I have been busy this week. A varied lot of clients. All successful and happy with their results. I have a new advert in the local monthly, glossy advertiser-come-journal. It's 1/2 page size now and colour and I am updating the text part of it every month. This month I have got a mini fact sheet about electrolysis and pregnancy. I hope that people will glance at my advert and be better informed about aspects of electrolysis and also get to know me a little , thereby beginning to trust me as a practitioner. I am passionate about what I do and I hope that people will "get" that from what I write. I am currently waiting for or local computer expert to create a web site for me. THAT, I am really excited about!

I have been using the rosacea products as per regime for 4 days now and i am really dedicated!

The cleanser is pleasant and easy to use. The moisturiser is lovely and the treatment/cosmetic improver product is ok.

I particularly like the moisturiser as it goes on smoothly and you don't need much of it and on my skin it gives a glowing, healthy sheen which i love. It caused my eyes to nip and water the first couple of times i used it but i have learned how to put it on without getting it too close to the eyes. I haven't had any further trouble.

I was spot free when i started the regime and am still spot free. That is even though i have travelled by air and train over two days and had a slightly stress inducing training session. I was wearing make-up on 2 out of the 4 days on which i have been using the treatment and make up usually does bring out the worst in my skin. Not this time however! I am very, very pleased.

On the subject of my new Apilus electro-epilation machine-- As mentioned above, i have had my training session with a very lovely therapist called Anna, in Banbury. She roped in two of her clients for me to practise on and it all went very well. Beacause i had already had a play with my new machine and because anna was so good at teaching, i felt that all i needed to know fell into place. We shall see!

I have used it since my return and so far,so very chuffed!

Hello, i received my package from RP/SkinAid this morning just as hoped. The packaging looks good, and the little trial-size bottles and tub look sufficiently glamourous!

I followed instructions for use as ROSACEA treatment/cosmetic improver. nb. it does state on the product that it is intended for cosmetic application in the case of the rosacea products.

I liked the whole caboodle but wonder if the cleanser and ''cosmetic treatment'' lotion are really going to help my rosacea. Do the words ''treatment'' and ''cosmetic'' make sense on the same bottle?

I am going to reread the book now as i see that the products i have bought contain sodium laureth sulphate , PEGs 60,120,7,8 and 18/18 . I may have misunderstood but i thought that these were undesirable ingredients.

I love the diary style treatment record and am going to try and keep to all the instructions.

I am the proud owner of an APILUS senior II computer controlled epilator. I am just practicing and getting to grips with it. I will be going to Cambridgeshire soon for one to one training with Dectro - Apilus' manufacturing company. Support so far has been very personable and timely.

It is a very powerful machine and features many more treatment options and combinations than my previous machine which was a Silhouette model. So far i think that the power and speed plus pulsing options are going to mean swifter, less nippy and more effective treatments. Watch this space!

I am reading 'Dermatology' by R.Graham-Brown & T.Burns (one of the 'Lecture Notes' series from Blackwell Publishing isbn 978-1-4051-3977-9)This book is aimed at medical and nursing students and it has a very concise and informative 1st. chapter on anatomy and physiology of the skin. Photographs of skin lesions and conditions are very clear and representative.

Sections on acne, parasitic infestations, psoriasis, eczema, tumours and specific disorders of hair and nails still to come. All looking like essential reading for the likes of me!

When it comes to the topic of acne, many people focus on the face as the sole culprit. But, the back tends to harbor acne just as often as the face. Back acne, or bacne, can be one of the toughest sorts of acne to fight but that does not mean the treatment is not available to clear your back of acne.

Facial Acne Versus Back Acne

Both facial acne and back acne are caused by the same clogs in the pores of the skin. When dead skin cells get caught up and cannot flake from the skin, they block the release of oils from the sebaceous glands. With the back skin being thicker than facial skin, the infection or irritation may be deeper.

The deeper the infection or irritation, the deeper the acne treatment will have to work in order to clear up the acne breakout.

Why is Back Acne So Persistent?

If you have ever faced a breakout of back acne, you know that the rash of bumps seems to take forever to heal. Why? It is all in the skin.

The skin on the face is relatively thin. When acne pops up, the treatment instantly hits the affected area and begins to treat the acne breakout. On the back, however, the skin is much thicker than on the face. This means that the infection causing the acne may be deeper into the layers of the skin than the acne appearing on the face.

Treating Back Acne

Luckily, there are tried and true acne treatments for back acne that work very effectively no matter how deep the root of the acne breakout. In order to get rid of back acne, you need only treat the acne in the same manner as you would treat facial acne.

Back acne is really no different than facial acne. The treatment may take longer simply due to the depth of the infection, but all facial acne and back acne treatments serve the same end.

Back acne can be an embarrassing problem. You no longer have to be afraid to remove your shirt or wear that dress with the low back cut. You can regain your self esteem and clear up that back acne breakout with a facial acne treatment proven to clear the skin. Why wait to TRY OUT a new method when there are clearly treatments that just plain work?

If you think your acne is just due to dirty skin or too much chocolate, you couldn’t be further from the truth...

The simple fact is acne only ever happens when

(a) Your pores block

AND

(b) Oil builds up

Chocolate categorically does not ‘cause’ this to happen. An imbalanced diet might make acne more likely but it isn’t the ‘cause’ (great news if you are chocolate lover).

There is no exact cause of acne. Your skin can happily go about its business shedding skin cells and producing sebum oil for years then suddenly your pores become blocked and acne appears.

There are however many situations in which your pores will have a higher tendency to block. To get rid of your acne and have a full treatment, you need to understand why and how this happens.

While trying to find the most likely reason your pores are blocking, it is very important to note that excess oil on your skin is not a ‘cause’ of acne. Your face could be swimming in oil and no acne would occur if your pores were clear of blockages.

Suggested causes of blockages in pores are;

- Hormones

- Diet

- Genetics

- Vitamin deficiency

- Steroid use

- Stress

- Cosmetics

And so on… most of these suggestions result in one or both of the following,

A sudden increase in oil production

A decrease in the speed of your skin cycle

The most common cause of blocked pores is a sudden increase in oil production. When your sebum glands suddenly produce more oil than normally, your pores cannot release is fast enough onto your skin and will block, trapping oil and creating acne.

Should you be in a period of your life (e.g. teens, pregnancy, and severe stress) where your hormones are not balanced, you may suffer from sudden increases in oil and thus acne. Similarly, if your diet is not balanced, you will also suffer from this.

A decrease in the speed of your skin cycle is the most common cause of adult acne. This might be caused by work stress, diet change or even menopause.

What ends up occurring in this case is the skin is not used to how slowly the new cells are being pushed to the surface so it holds on to the dead cells for too long. These then end up blocking the pores.

We don’t know why some pores block and others don’t however we do know that once you have had acne in a particular skin area, the walls of the pores will be weaker and more prone to folding in on themselves and narrowing the exit for the oil. A small blockage that would get easily swept away by the oil in another pore might then block that particular pore.

Some types of exfoliation can help avoid a blockage in your pores from dead skin build up and we will discuss those later. The point to note now is that the surface of your skin is not flat.

Using a regular exfoliant with little beads in it from the chemist is not going to remove dead skin cells from inside the crevasses of your skin. It is most definitely not going to remove any dead skin cells that have gotten inside your pores. If you can feel the grains of the exfoliant, they are too big to get inside your pores.

Regardless of the cause of blocked pores, once the pores are blocked, the result is the same… acne.

If you’ve got acne-prone skin, getting rid of your acne is something you can have total control over. In fact, you may not realize just how much control you do have over the best treatment and remedy of your acne.

Some people assume they just have problem skin and there is nothing they can do. Chances are they have tried a variety of products on the market for it as well. When nothing gives them results they may assume they are just going to have to let the acne run its course.

In order to control the acne you already have you need to device a plan of action. The solution lies within your skin care procedures. You may think that washing your face when you shower and before bed is enough. Yet if you aren’t using the right products it isn’t going to get your results you want. For example too many soaps and products on the market for acne have harsh ingredients in them.

As a result they can dry out your face. Instead you need to use a mild soap and then pat your face dry. This is an excellent way to take care of your skin. It is a common misconception that scrubbing your face with the towel will remove dirt and debris. Yet gentle cleansing does the same without damaging your skin.

You should be in the habit of exfoliating at least once a week. This will remove the dead skin from your face. As a result it won’t clog your pores which can result in acne. Do your best to avoid various types of over the counter treatments. For the most part they will be an ineffective acne treatment for you.

The best acne remedy is to take a holistic approach. Washing your face correctly is just the beginning. You need to think about what you eat and drink as well. It has often been said that greasy foods and chocolate can result in acne. That isn’t exactly true but what you eat is important. Consuming plenty of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and water removes toxins from your body naturally.

It is those toxins that will result in bacteria building up and then acne forming. So one of the most effective forms of acne remedy is to remove such toxins from your body before the acne even has a chance to form. It is a better alternative then looking to acne treatment after you already have the outbreak.

If you have been looking unsuccessfully for a solution to your acne problems, then this could be the answer. You won’t be wasting your money on products that really don’t help you to control the acne. At the same time you will be engaging in forms of skin care that really help you to glow. Not only will you suffer less from acne, your skin will look quite radiant. It can help you look younger too which many women really enjoy.

If you are tired of trying one acne treatment after another it is time to get real results. Now is the time to try an acne remedy that really will get you results. If you are taking care of your skin the right way you can clear up the acne you already have. You can also prevent acne from being something you continue to struggle with.
